News for September

For your printing pleasure we present the newest and largest of our four Perpetual Calendar Months, Collection No. 75. The overall form size is 44 x 21 picas for a five-week month and this can be expanded both vertically and laterally by inserting strip material as desired. Type used for the dates, the appealing Zephyr, is a 1964 Ludlow design very rarely seen in individual foundry type. I searched for these matrices for many years; we have now cast fonts in both 24 and 36 point which you may wish to order for titles to go with this Calendar.

Currently offered for sale in our Dutch Auction page is a font of Elisabeth. This is a historically significant type face in that it is one of the very few metal types designed by a woman, Elisabeth Friedlander. At the invitation of Germany’s Bauer Type Foundry, she drew this delicate stylized roman in 1934 and it was released by Bauer in 1939. The original name was Friedländer-Antiqua, but with the rise of Hitler’s Nazi government, that was changed to simply Elisabeth, avoiding her Jewish last name. Bauer later marketed this face to the west as Elizabeth. A companion italic was also released.

Back in stock: Border No. G-71, the lovely Vine & Fruit design in 24 point.
