News for September

Got any Radiant in your cases? Not bloomin’ likely—the face originated with the Ludlow Typograph Co. and the only matrices ever made were for their linecasting machine. But that’s no obstacle here! We have the necessary hardware to cast foundry type from linecaster mats. This face bears a family resemblance to the late 19th century’s Globe Gothic and was designed in several variants. For your printing pleasure in September we hereby offer Radiant Bold in 30 point.

Restocked: Cochin 14pt and its Lowercase Supplement; Della Robbia 36pt.

In July we once again staged Letterpress Boot Camp at the Skyline pressroom. This is a 3-day, hands-on introduction to all phases of Letterpress printing (with real type, not plastic). For highly personalized instruction the class is limited to just two students. Dates are set at your convenience, and we’re taking names for the next class, so drop a note if you’re interested in attending.

It’s time for our annual Type High Day sale! Free shipping, any order anywhere in the U.S. To activate this discount just type 9/18 in the Coupon Code field when you place an online order. This coupon will be in effect on September 18 only.

Here’s a good story. One of our customers in Utah recently turned in a large quantity of scrap type for credit. Her initials are B.R. and I whimsically issued the credit with Coupon Code BR549. Now if you immediately recognize those five digits, I need not explain. If you don’t— you’re probably under 30, or urban, and you definitely don’t know much about hillbillies. Search it and all will be made clear. Well, another customer, this one in West-by-God-Virginia (that’s hillbilly country, bubba!) was placing an order online and for whatever reason tried typing random things in the Coupon Code field—including, yup, BR549. And KA-CHINGG!! The whole order was FREE! Or it would have been, had it been closed online, but he had already selected the Pay by Check option. The order came in, with puzzled but happy exclamations typed in the Notes field. Then yours truly was the puzzled one!! How the hell … ? So I phoned him; we figured it out and had a good laugh over it. I recombobulated the order and sent it out. And don’t bother trying that Code yourself, I’ve already changed it!
