The type face we know as Stymie appeared as such in 1931, but its lineage dates back another 20 years to a design by the Inland Type Foundry of St. Louis. This and other square-serif faces (such as Germany’s Beton) became enormously popular in the 20th century’s headlong rush to repudiate the ornate types of previous decades. Skyline has accepted a commission for five variants and we’re casting a few extra fonts of each, in case you just can’t live without it. Here for October is Stymie Medium and Italic in 14 point. The same in 18 point are forthcoming for November. Each has some alternate letterforms that are rarely ever seen in use.
We also have accepted a commission for some No. 37 English Caslon Old Style, and possibly No. 337 Caslon Old Style as well, both in 14 point. At this point we do not contemplate doing extra fonts for stock, but if you would like to have some cast for your shop along with the commission, we can do that. Drop a line. (Diphthongs and some other specials available, but no quaints [long S], sorry.)
Restocked: Relievo No. 2, the single most laborious casting in our line, requiring manual insertion of a quad between each cast, and hand-dressing the left and right sides of each and every type. But this classic Victorian is worth it!
As you may remember, last year we acquired a monster stash of new old stock ATF type—about 16,000 lbs. It’s pretty well picked-over (and was thus long before we got it), but it’s been selling off steadily since then and we’re now down to a mere 12,110 lbs. It’s time for a SALE! Effective today, prices on the entire list are permanently reduced by 20%. This is a good chance to add more lowercase or figures to that font you like. Find the listing in the blue menu bar on the Skyline site.
