The so-called “Rugged” type styles were popular in the first decade of the 20th century. New for this month, here’s a prime example: Plymouth in 24 point. Originating with Barnhart Bros. & Spindler foundry, it was later known as Rugged Black. The stylized alternate characters and logotype make this a fun face.
Every once in a while we get a note from our neighbors in Canada asking if we have any type faces that are furnished with French language accents. No, but the most recent of these inquiries finally pushed us past the tipping point and we actually stopped goofing off and did something about it. Now available are Sans Serif Light Accent Supplements in 18 and 36 point, to accompany these fonts already on the shelf. Each includes all required lowercase accents to do composition in either French or Spanish.
Way back in the olden days when I ran Skyline alone and had a real day job, one of the projects was Cooper Tooled, a rare variant of the ubiquitous Cooper Black. Within a few years the casting of 18 fonts sold out and from laziness it was just discontinued. Having recently repented of that stupid decision, it is now reintroduced and available once again.
Also recast and back in stock are Collection No. 48, Decorative Dashes, and Sans Serif Light 30 with Deco Alternates.
April saw a successful mission to the slightly rainy but always fabulous Bay Area Printers Fair (for which Skyline was once again a Sponsor), and a truck & trailer load of letterpress gear hauled out of southern California on a treasure hunt. We’re going back for another load this month. The rusty junk just keeps on finding us!
