According to Annenberg, St. Louis Type Foundry (est. 1840) was the first one west of the Mississippi. It continued in business until absorbed into American Type Founders when that amalgamation was formed in 1892. This face, similar to Century Bold, is unidentified but the type bears the very distinctive double pinmark of the St. Louis foundry as pictured above. A historic collector’s item.  JB0203
