Thanks to George in OKC for the quick identification of this antique—within a couple of hours of posting! He located it on page 463 of the 1897 ATF catalog.
What typefounder in his right mind would cast a three-point piece border? Well, here’s the proof that somebody, sometime, somewhere did—and whether any printer was crazy enough to compose and use it is hard to tell; the type is darkened with age and showing little or no wear. It’s a solid diamond design and the pieces range in set width from six to forty-eight points. Quantity is about 367 running picas. Interesting collector’s item! JB0108
